The song HoĆ«veld is a wordplay on the poem by Toon van den Heever with the same title. When Oom Toon wrote his poem, the South African “highveld” (high country) was without blackwattels, mines, brackish water, powerstations and petroleumplants. It was the antithesis of the dessert. Equally open, bare and empty, but with endless amounts of water and feed. This song is about the new highveld – the dirty one.
