Master Mike

The most of Mike Patton’s fans know him as the leadsinger of the semi-supergroup Faith No More. How many of you have ever heard of Fantômas, Tomahawk, Mr Bungle, or any of his solo stuff, like Adult Themes for Voice? Hmmm – I thought so.

Ok, the story goes like this. In 1996 we’re a group of friends who play in a band together, do a lot of drugs, and see how weird we can get the vibes we pump into our ears. I’ve just finished buying my entire Frank Zappa education at the Hatfield flea market in Pretoria, at the rate of an LP per month for about a year, and boundaries were waiting to be pushed. Then someone brought us this shit (not the video – a CD of a guy by the name of John Zorn named Naked City):

Not very long after that, some spaced out dude one day brings us Mr Bungle’s Disco Volante, produced by John Zorn, and it sounds a bit like this (this is not the CD version, but a demo):
